Humanities IT recently scuffed off its old skin and emerged as Humanities Academic Computing - a name that more accurately reflects what it is we actually do... and has the added advantage of not linking us automatically in people's minds with ICTS, as some kind of local branch of the central ICT service. While it will take some time for this message to permeate the ossified consciousness of the most adamant - for whom HIT has always been the friendly local alternative to the ICTS Helpdesk, so why should that change now - we look forward to the days when the calls we get are certain to be about, say, testing some funky new toys which look really good and might have tremendous teaching potential... rather than about someone's printer jamming *yet again* or their mailbox being over quota.
