The meeting was about the lack of progress on Transformation. Specific issues were raised regarding Employment Equity, student equity, and resourcing for Transformation. Proposals made by the Alliance related to:
- Succession Management, for academic and other staff, to support Employment Equity and skills development.
- An Employment Equity plan for the SLuG.
- Diversity Training for university leadership, cascading down to all staff and students.
- Public debate on institutional climate and culture.
- Symbolic gestures enhancing UCT's African and South African identity - including the names of buildings.
- The appointment of an ombud.
- The review and revival of sexual harassment and racial harassment panels.
- Council, Senate and Faculty Board meetings being open to stakeholders.
- The Organisational Climate intervention strategy to be finalised and resourced.
- Sanctions for members of the SLuG and HoDs where they do not comply with UCT Values or meet accountability and responsibility in implementing transformation policies.
- Review and alignment of all social justice and transformation policies to identify and address gaps to ensure implementation and monitoring.
- Addressing the perception that decision-making power rests with white males in the executive - perhaps a "cabinet reshuffle".
